How it Started
East Van Roasters (EVR) is a social enterprise program that was founded in 2012 by PHS Community Services Society with the mission to make an impact on the local community.
The PHS has been providing services in Vancouver’s downtown east side (DTES) for over 25 years, focusing on housing and harm reduction in Vancouver’s DTES. PHS operates over 20 buildings, a night shelter, doctors office, dental clinic, Insite (safe injection site), Onsite (detox), and initiated many other services and peer employment programs, including, the Window Community Art Shop and Our Community Thrift and Vintage.
Since the beginning it has been led by Shelley Bolton (Executive Director).
Proud to be a Social Enterprise Community Contribution Company (C3)
As a Community Contribution Company (C3), we are committed to conduct our business for social purposes. As a social enterprise C3, our primary mission is to provide peer work opportunities to at-risk women who are re-entering the workforce through mentorship-based programming and on the job training.
We are also committed to supporting the farmers community by working directly with farmers all over the world for fairly-traded, organic beans.
We continue to develop partnerships with other enterprises in the DTES that
have a social purpose and 20% of all sales stay in the Downtown Eastside to help support our purpose. Read More Here
